| You'd
be suprised how often we get asked this! If you
have made a decision to test your equipment every
12 months, but then don't - then you
are not following your own safety policy, which
is obviously bad. But you should remember that
the law does not require annual testing, only
that your equipment is maintained
so that it remains safe.
If
it is the case that you have idenitified a need
to test regularly, then you should do so, but
it may well be that some of your appliances need
testing less frequently than once per year, and
you could revise your policy accordingly. Please
note, that if you have decided that a particular
test frequency is required, you cannot argue that
that you didn't follow your own policy because
it wasn't convenient or you couldn't afford it.
However,
if you work as a self-employed person
(contractor, musician etc) it is very likely that
most of the organisations you work for will most
certainly expect you to have your equipment tested
every month. We do lots of testing for local musicians,
and most local venues will not allow acts to perform
unless they can show test certificates which are
less than 12 months old.
If
you haven't had any testing done for a while,
then our advice is to start as soon as possible.
Identify those appliances which pose the highest
risk, and test those first. Call us if you need
help, and we may be able to fit you in as an urgent
case!
