| It's
fair to say that over the last few years, billions
of pounds have been wasted throughout the UK on
testing! We have heard stories of people paying
upwards of £7.00 per item
to have them tested by an electrician.
Whilst
it is true that all employers and self-employed
people have to ensure the safety of their appliances,
it may not be necessary to pay a fortune to have
your equipment tested every 12 months. In fact,
the best way is usually to carry out a risk assessment,
and test the appliances at a rate which is sensible
and appropriate. It's no coincidence that this
is usually the most cost-effective way too. If
you want a quotation based around your particular
circumstances, please ask us. If you have already
had a quote from another company, then we'll happily
do our best to beat it. As a rough guide, you
should expect to pay less than £2.00
per item if you are paying a contractor to come
to your premises, and maybe as little as £1.20
if you have a very large number of items.
You
may decide to carry out the testing in-house,
and many organisations save money by adopting
this approach. When budgeting however, remember
that the person carrying out the testing will
need access to a portable appliance tester, as
well as a selection of decent hand tools and lots
of spare plugs and fuses. Also remember that a
specialist pat engineer may be considerably faster
than a member of your team who has been drafted
in to do the work.
Testing
can be an expensive process - but we can work
with you to keep the costs under control. However,
if you do need to carry out testing but decide
not to because you cannot afford it, this would
not carry much favour with the authorities if
you had an accident.
